A "hard wired" intruder alarm system consists of a control panel and a range of detectors. There are some cables running from the control panel to the devices. These cables are carefully hidden. "Wire Free" systems use battery powered detectors which transmit radio signals to the alarm control panel. There is no need to run a cable to the detector.
